Everyone smile: Those attending the chamber business after hours, hosted by The Clanton Advertiser, Thursday, pose for a group photo. Nearly 75 people total attended the event.

The newspaper decided to host the event to showcase its facilities and highlight the new Weekend edition set to launch this weekend.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had an event like this here, and we wanted to get everyone together,” Advertiser publisher Mike Kelley said. “We’ve had a tremendous turnout. It was great to see everyone who came by.”

Those attending were given a tour of the newspaper’s business office and printing facility. The Advertiser’s production manager Jimmy Ruff also put on a show for those attending, printing a special section on the company’s press, which featured a group photo of everyone who attended Thursday.

“We’re extremely proud of the kind of facility we have here and the quality work we are able to produce,” Kelley said. “It was fun to have everyone here to see our press run.”

The new Weekend edition debuts Saturday and will feature a new, multi-section look with a new sports section and special lifestyles page.

Hey ... some of us "regular" folks wuz there, too. I really enjoyed meeting and talking with Scott, Stephen, and the two ladies in the break room that answered some of my questions about the print shop. I spent a few years operating various types of machinery in a sawmill, so the offset printing press was my weakness. and I was very impressed with the manner in which Jimmy Ruff executed his duties as a "one man band", setting up and printing a sample paper, which included the group picture taken during the event. The Clanton Advertiser team should be very proud of their facility and the cumulative experience of the folks that "make it happen".
