Man shoots ex-wife
Published Monday, April 20, 2009
Clanton police have arrested Shane Ray Clackler for allegedly attempting to kill his ex-wife Sunday night. Clackler is currently being held at the Chilton County Jail without bond and is being charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
The shooting, which reportedly happened after 10 p.m. Sunday, happened in the 100 block of Randall Circle in Clanton.
According to the report, Clackler went to the home of his ex-wife and got into an argument outside the Randall Circle address. Clackler then fired several rounds at the victim, striking her at least once. He then fled the scene.
The victim was treated by the Clanton Fire Department on the scene and then transported to UAB Medical Center, where she remains in serious condition.
Clanton police, with the assistanc of the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Chilton County Tactical Response Unit, took Clackler into custody early Monday morning at a home on Chilton County Road 99.
“We were getting information that he allegedly told someone that he was not going to jail without a fight,” Clanton Chief of Police Brian Stilwell said. It is safer, when situations like this arise, to have the Chilton County TRU Team take the lead in his arrest.”
Stilwell said negotiators tried to make contact with Clackler in the home but were unsuccessful.
Authorities then entered the home and found Clackler, who had been hiding. He was taken into custody without incident.
“I want to thank all my officers, Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis and his deputies for assisting us in this case,” Stilwell said.

Another good job and some wise decisions by our Chief, Sheriff and all members of their respective departments. Keep up the good work guys. May God bless and protect each of you as you go about your duties. And may He also bless and comfort the injured lady.
