State Treasurer comes to county for visit with pageant contestants

Alabama State Treasurer Kay Ivey visited with the Miss Chilton County contestants during a tea Sunday afternoon.

Miss Chilton County contestants celebrated their feminine side by hosting a tea party Sunday at Petals from the Past. Present at the tea was State Treasurer Kay Ivey, who visited the girls in support of not only their hard work but also their work in improving the economy.

“I don’t make very many engagements for a Sunday afternoon. I felt that this gathering was a benefit to the whole county through its economic support,” Ivey said.

“I have spent many hours working with young people in hopes of spreading the importance of economic growth and support, and I feel that these girls are really given an opportunity to learn that lesson.”

Ivey spoke to the girls about the importance of economics and how proud she was over their work to secure a spot in Chilton County history. She said pageants are not always in her support, but when it comes to a group that can help the economical situation she is in full support and gives the girls a hand for their efforts.

“These girls are getting out and making a statement not only for themselves but also for their county, and that means a lot,” she said.

Tonight the Young Miss and Junior Miss contestants will be having parties at the Alabama Power Company Building.

The Young Miss sundae party will start at 4 p.m., and the Junior Miss “Deal or No Deal” party will start at 5:45 p.m.
