Jefferson State holds information session, orientation set for July 29

Jefferson State Community College in Chilton County is getting ready to open its doors for students coming in to register.

The new campus is set to open in October. Class registration will begin on Aug. 12-14. To get students ready for the upcoming registration, officials will hold an orientation at the Clanton City Hall Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m. on July 29.

“We are really wanting to get the word out to the students that they can come in and get all the information that they need for getting signed up,” said Danielle Coburn, director of instructional sites. “There will also be advisors attending the orientation, which will give the students a good chance to ask questions about classes.”

Tuesday and Wednesday, college officials held a public meeting where they talked to people from the community about the school, its schedule and the process of getting enrolled for both classes and financial aid.

Since the Clanton Jeff State campus site will not be finished and open to students until October, the first two months of classes will be held in the old McKinnon building located on Highway 31.

“The classes offered will be available both during the day and at night. For those with conflicting schedules an online course may be there best bet,” Coburn said.
