MILLBROOK – Adam Pinkard, owner of Holeshot MX in Millbrook, had his track prepped and ready on Sunday for the first double points race in July. What he, the riders, and spectators were not prepared for was the downpour of rain with lightning and thunder that showed up just after the first moto began.
Riders ran to cover under tents and campers and waited out the storm. The decision was made to continue the race only for one moto so riders could claim their positions for the double points.
Bikes took the track with nearly a foot of mud and slush under the them. It was a race of balance and using your head to stay up in the mud. Speed was not the winning factor but who could go down the least number of times into the mud spa below. It was almost impossible to recognize each rider as they came across the finish line – each was covered from head to toe.
The next CAMS race, which is also double points, is July 20 at Crossbones MX Ranch in Billingsley.

When most people hear of OCD, they think of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but, at the Chicken House Harescramble held in Carter Country this past weekend, one might think of Ousley, Carter and DeLoach as they dominated their classes in style.
With the race starting at 8 a.m. Sunday for the “big guns,” there was still dew on the grass that made for an interesting start for the event. The race was started in an open pasture where the grass was thick and wet. Kyle Henderson got the hole shot but gave away the lead quickly to Cliff Ousley on his KTM 300 as he slid down in a turn before they ever left the open grass track.
Ousley stretched his lead over the next 3 laps and 45+ miles to best the field of 210 competitors by an impressive 3:20 over second overall Steven Reed of Louisiana. There was a $100 bounty on Reed because he won the Chicken House Harescramble last year, and Ousley will have the same bounty on him for next year.
Not only did Ousley earn the $100 cash, he was awarded a trophy, a real live chicken and a Mohawk that he must wear at next year's Chicken House Harescramble so that competitors will know who they have to beat to win the bounty.
Tyler Carter turned in the best ride of his career when he rode in the highly contended Open A class on his Yamaha YZ250 to take home third overall and the class win. Look out AA guys – he’s on his way to be starting on that first row. Carter did not get the hole shot in his class, either, but it took less than a few miles for him to be in the lead and never check up.
Dustin Stevens started in this class but was unable to finish.
Kevin DeLoach rode his Kawasaki KX250F to his first class win of the season and 21st overall. Hunter Sanders, Jonathan Seales and Ryan Patridge contended in this class as well with Sanders having bike problems, Seales finished second and 35th overall, and Ryan Patridge came in third.
DeLoach was told before the race that he had to win his class because his picture was featured on the race T-shirts this year and he had to represent PMMC well.
Beau Burnett had his best race of the season, finishing third on his KTM 200 in the highly talented Junior class. Alex Price also competed in this class. Phillip McMillan and his son Chris each won their class with the elder topping the Golden Masters and Chris acing the Lites A class and 11th overall.
The Vet B class was one of the largest classes of the day with Ted Anz besting our local guys, taking home fifth. John Huggins came in 13th, Chris Aultman 15th and Brian Lewis 16th.
Other local riders to compete were Edwin Petty, second in Super Senior; Will McConnell, second Open A and fifth overall; Frank Davis, third in AA and fourth overall; and John Michael Lawrence, finishing 11th in the Beginner class.
Needless to say, the dew went away and the sun came out and made for a somewhat warm day at the Chicken House. It was a blessing that the race started at 8 instead of the usual time of 11. At the finish line, there were many smiling faces under the helmets, and they were all saying thank you.
The Chicken House Harescramble was a great event for spectators to enjoy. During the course of the day, one could watch their racer come through the scoring tent, cross an iron bridge, ride along the creek bed in the sand, cross over an obstacle made of tires, go through the chicken house, jump the creek, and weave their way in and out of the grass track. There were several miles of wooded trails that were out of sight for the fan, but one can’t say that there were not enough spectator points to view the race.
This spectator doesn’t think Landon Carter and the rest of Perry Mountain Motorcycle Club could have done anything differently to make the race better.
On Saturday afternoon under cloudy skies and the threat of rain at any second, 35 young boys and girls took to the trails in Carter Country. Austin Anz, on a KTM, grabbed the hole shot and never gave up the lead to win first in the Beginner Pee Wee class.
There were two local young men to compete with eight others in the Pee Wee class: Ethan Gregg finished sixth on his KTM, and Trent Huff came in eighth on his Yamaha.
The Intermediate Kids class had six competitors with Harrison Caver winning first in his class for the first time. Jackson Davis finished third, and Preston Phillips fourth.
The Vet Kids class had the race of the day. Neal Ousley was the first rider to make the turn, but Jacob Davis was the first one to enter the woods. Jared White was hard on the gas and hit the front brake a bit too hard to send him over the handlebars right off the start. Fortunately, only his bike was seriously damaged though he does have a sore wrist.
Davis and Ousley stretched their lead over the rest of the field and had a close finish with Ousley coming on strong at the end. Davis won, Ousley was second and Landon Barrett seventh.
Each class winner received an adorable chicken trophy, and believe it or not, a real live chicken in a cage.
Jacob Davis was also awarded $40 by Chad Earl and Sherry Ferguson for winning overall. The money will come in handy to help feed his new chicken. Trophies and/or medals were awarded to all finishers.
The next SERA harescramble is scheduled for the weekend of July 26 near Memphis, Tenn.
