The Clanton Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Second Avenue between 10:30 and 10:45 p.m. on June 27.

The Traffic Homicide Investigator is collecting information on the one-car accident in the 1400 block of Second Avenue, which claimed the life of an 18 -month-old child.

On June 28, CPD utilized its drone to gather additional information at the scene.

“We were out there just this morning with the drone taking some pictures of details in the area that we couldn’t get last night,” Captain Neil Fetner said.

Using the drone allows the department to get a different perspective and 360 view of the crash site from the air.

No names of those involved are being released because of the ongoing investigation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Fetner said.

Fetner said the accident is the second involving a pedestrian to occur on Second Avenue in the past two weeks.

“We ask that people obey the speed limit and be vigilant about children crossing,” Fetner said.

In the first incident, the pedestrian, also a child, was fine.
