CLANTON —The Scrub Shop celebrated its opening and membership in the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting on April 13.

Owners Erin Mahan and her husband Phillip had been working toward opening a medical scrubs store for about a year.

“We feel like we kind of hit the jackpot with this location because of the hospital. I didn’t really realize the need that was down here. There is no other scrub store in Chilton County and there is a lot of medical,” Erin Mahan said.

Located at 1015 B Lay Dam Road, the store is on the same street as St. Vincent’s Chilton. The store is also conveniently located to a number of private medical offices on Lay Dam Road, the public health department and Hatley Health Care.

The Mahans began their search for a location in Calera, where they live, but later started looking at potential spaces in Chilton County.

“We just drove around here one day, and we stopped by the hospital and I saw what a good place it was,” Erin Mahan said.

The Lay Dam Road location was selected in March and the business opened on April 1.

“It’s been good. We’ve gotten a lot of good feedback,” Mahan said.

Most of the feedback has been excitement.

A variety of colors, styles, brands and sizes (small to 5x) are available for men and women.

“Sometimes the men get left out, so we wanted to have a good variety for the men as well,” Mahan said.

Mahan said MedCouture Activate has been a popular brand so far.
