A bomb threat Monday afternoon caused Clanton Walmart to be shut down while police searched the property.

The incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. Monday.

Clanton Police responded to the scene, and the store was evacuated, Clanton Police Chief Keith Maddox said.

About 200 customers and employees had to be cleared from the scene, and then police searched the premises.

No explosives were found, Maddox said.

“Walmart does a good job of getting everybody out,” Maddox said. “They take these things seriously.”

The store was re-opened after about an hour.

Maddox said police are working with telephone service providers in an effort to gather evidence for possible criminal charges, though no suspect was identified Monday.
