After losing Game 1 of an area series against Hillcrest on Tuesday, Chilton County High School traveled to Tuscaloosa to resume the series on Thursday.

However, nothing seemed to go the Tigers’ way in this one.

CCHS was forced to use three pitchers in the first inning alone, surrendering eight runs in the process.

Five of the eight runs were scored by bases loaded walks, and at the end of the first, the Tigers trailed Hillcrest 8-0.

An RBI double by Dustin Langston put the Tigers on the board in the top of the second, but a pair of runs for the Patriots in the third and two more in the fourth gave Hillcrest an 11-1 lead after four innings of play.

To keep from losing the game via the 10-run rule, the Tigers needed to score two runs in the top of the fifth.

An easy pop fly and a strikeout resulted in two quick outs, but Tolliver Gilliland was able to reach first base courtesy of an error by the Patriots’ second baseman.

Gilliland advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when Cade Hatch hit a hard fly ball to the gap in left-center.

The following batter flied out to right and the Tigers lost Game 2,12-2 in five innings.

Hatch and Langston collected all three of the Tigers’ hits in the game.

Hatch was 2-for-3 with a single, double and an RBI while Langston was 1-for-2 with an RBI double.

The Tigers are now 15-11 on the season (2-2 in area play).

Chilton County will host Webster County out of Kentucky in a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Area play will resume on April 12 when the Tigers travel to Paul Bryant for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.

If Chilton County can win the series against Paul Bryant, they will secure second place in the area and a playoff berth.
