4-7 career

Kim Benson, career coach at LeCroy Career Technology Center, took select ninth grade students from the school district to attend Alabama Power’s LEAP program career day on March 24 at the Alabama Power Company Crew Headquarters in Birmingham.

LEAP (Linemen, Engineers, and Apprentice Programs) is a mentoring and recruitment organization of Alabama Power and Southern Company that encourages students to consider opportunities in the areas of energy.

The career day event consisted of three major parts: 1) introduction to labor and field careers (generating plants, distribution and transmission line work, underground network, etc.), 2) introduction to engineering and controls careers (distribution and transmission engineers, protection and controls engineers, control center), and 3) innovation and other careers (drones, marketing, public relations, environmental, etc.).
