A fatal overnight wreck caused delays on Interstate 65—and also Highway 31.

Sgt. Steve Jarrett with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the wreck on I-65 near the 215 mile marker about 2:30 a.m. Monday involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger car, and resulted in a fire.

As emergency crews responded to the scene, lanes were closed and much traffic re-routed off the interstate onto Highway 31 through Clanton.

Cpl. Jess Thornton with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said one southbound lane of the interstate was open at about 9 a.m. and that traffic was “flowing smoothly.”

Both lanes were open at 9:45 a.m.

No further information was immediately available.
