A Clanton man facing two charges of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 is scheduled to appear in court March 3 for a plea hearing.

James Richard Easterling, 35, who lists an address off County Road 633 in Clanton, is scheduled to appear before Chilton County Circuit Judge John B. Bush at 8 a.m. at the Chilton County Courthouse.

Easterling will have the option to inform the court whether his case will go to trial or whether he will enter a guilty plea.

Easterling is charged with sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 for incidents that happened in Chilton County in 2013.

Easterling was arrested on Nov. 19, 2013, and indicted by a February 2014 grand jury in Chilton County on two counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12, according to court records.

Easterling posted bond on Dec. 17, 2013.

On June 5, 2015, Easterling was arrested in Shelby County on rape, sexual abuse and sodomy charges involving a minor.

Easterling was arrested by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on two counts of second-degree rape, one count second-degree sodomy and misdemeanor second-degree sexual abuse, according to court records.

According to the arrest warrants in Shelby County, Easterling allegedly had sexual contact with a female “on or about June 3” who was younger than 16 years old but older than 12.

Prosecutors in Chilton County filed a motion in June requesting Bush revoke Easterling’s bond in the Chilton County cases.

The motion stated “conditions of bond are stated in Rule 7.3 of the Alabama Rules of Criminal Procedure. Rule 7.3 (a) (2) clearly requires a defendant to, ‘refrain from committing any criminal offense’ while on bond.”

Prosecutors also argued in the same motion that Easterling was a “danger to the public.”

Bush filed an order in June 2015 revoking Easterling’s bond and ordered Easterling be held in jail pending further proceedings.

Court records indicate Easterling is in the Chilton County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
