2006 Verbena graduate Kala Moore Langston has come home.

In her first year as the girls’ physical education coach at Verbena, she has also taken on the added responsibility as coach of the girls’ softball team.

It is a sport Langston knows well.

During her senior year at Verbena, she and her team advanced to the sub-state round of the playoffs, just one round away from the state tournament.

“It’s awesome being able to come back and teach where I graduated from,” Moore said. “Coaching softball now is like a way to give back. I’d like to see our girls get as far as we did in ’06 and further.”

To help make that dream a reality, Kala and husband Chad are sponsoring a co-ed kickball tournament to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Clanton City Park.

The goal is to have an 8-10 team tournament, with each team to be comprised of 5-6 boys and 5-6 girls.

The entry fee is $100 per team, and each member must be 14 years old and older.

The deadline to register is Thursday.

There is no admission fee to attend this county-wide event.

Concessions will be sold with proceeds to benefit Verbena’s softball program. Proceeds will be used for facility and equipment upgrades.

For more information about how to register, visit the Facebook event page by searching “VHS CO-ED KICKBALL TOURNAMENT,” call the Verbena High School office at (205) 280-2820, or email Langston at kmlangston@chilton.k12.al.us.
