The Fellowship of Christian Students of Verbena High School is inviting people from the community to a “See You at the Pole” rally Sept. 23 at 7:10 a.m.

Gathering before school starts, the student-led time of prayer and singing will also involve a recital of verses and breakfast.

The See You at the Pole rally first began in 1990, and by 2005, was being observed worldwide by over 2 million students.

“With our children facing so many pressures in daily life, this helps them to stay strong,” FCS Sponsor Sherrie Heflin said. “It is important for the event to be student-led, so that they can stand up and exhibit their faith in front of their fellow peers. Enabling them to go out and be leaders for Christ among their friends, with the possibility of opening a doorway to a conversation that could lead them to the Lord.”

To help them with this task, the members of FCS take pride in the group’s mission statement:

With a vision to see their school and world impacted by Jesus Christ, a mission to represent Jesus in all that they say and do, and values that demonstrate a steadfast commitment to Jesus Christ.

Working toward fulfilling their mission, this year the FCS is working on future plans to incorporate a school-wide day of ministry through drama and singing, and hopes to become involved in their county through community service.

It may be a daunting task since students lost many members to both graduation and the change in schedule from blocks to periods, as participants dwindled from 65 to just 15.
