An Alabama Department of Corrections inmate was struck and killed on Interstate 65 Wednesday afternoon near the Autauga/Chilton county line.

Braxton Darquail Moon, 21, of Alexander City, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Moon was struck by a 2003 Peterbilt tractor-trailer while assisting with road maintenance around 1:25 p.m. near Mile Marker 194, the release said.

A 2006 Ford F-750 being used by the road crew was struck as well.

According to court records, Moon was serving a sentence for first-degree burglary, which he committed in 2013.

All northbound traffic near the scene of the incident was blocked for a time before authorities cleared the scene.

Michel Landin, 36, of Lehigh Acres, Fla. was identified as the driver of the 2003 Peterbilt.

He was arrested by Alabama State Trooper Traffic Homicide Investigators Wednesday night, according to the release.

Landin was charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident. He was placed in the Autauga County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

No additional information was available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the incident.
