Ross Luther Smitherman

Ross Luther Smitherman, 74, of Clanton, passed away July 29 at his residence.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1941, in Alabama, the son of the late Luther Smitherman and the late Myrtis Johnson Smitherman.

Ross was a loving and devoted father and husband. He touched many lives of young men in the Clanton area, as coach of football and baseball for nearly 28 years. After retirement, he spent a lot of time observing and participating in the lives of his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Smitherman of Clanton; son, Rodney Smitherman (Dena) of Clanton; daughter, Karen Jones (Ronnie) of Italy, Texas; grandson, Justin Jones (Jena) of Krum, Texas; granddaughters, Brooke Smitherman of Clanton, Katy Smitherman of Clanton; step-granddaughter, Haydin Harris of Clanton; sister, Barbara Ann Liveoak (Winston) and a host of nieces, nephews and other family.

Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. July 31 at Martin Funeral Home.

Services will be held Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. at Martin Chapel with the Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating.

Interment will follow in Martin Mausoleum in Clanton.
