The Jemison City Council unanimously voted on Monday to approve a section in the Jemison Police Department’s directives manual regarding chaplains.

Jemison Police Chief Shane Fulmer said on Tuesday the department has had a chaplain but never had a policy to cover the guidelines and responsibilities of a chaplain.

“We have had things here lately where our chaplain has been involved, but we just never had a formal policy about chaplains,” Fulmer said. “I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and get something written up.”

Councilman George Brasher said he thought the policy was a good idea.

Council members Brasher, Donnie Lane, Robert Morris, Rex Bittle and Sam Reed voted in favor of the motion.

Mayor Eddie Reed was absent from Monday’s meeting.

In other business, the council voted to approve the minutes from the June 1 council meeting, and approved paying all necessary bills.
