Showers and thunderstorms are expected at various times through the week in Chilton County.

“It is looking like there will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday and Thursday and a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday,” said meteorologist Jason Davis with the National Weather Service in Calera.

The month of May ended with about a quarter-inch below the average amount of rainfall for this time of year, Davis said.

“It is pretty typical for June to see afternoon showers and thunderstorms,” Davis said. “They are pretty scattered, but June typically sees about 4.5 inches of rain for the month.”

So far, about four inches of rain has fallen in the area within the last week, Davis said.

“We had a pretty dry start to the month of May, and the second half of the month was pretty wet,” Davis said.

Although rain is in the forecast for the next several days, Davis said the chance for showers and thunderstorms tapers off toward the end of the week.

“Once the weekend arrives there is a 20 percent chance of rain,” Davis said.

Daytime highs on Tuesday are expected to reach around 82 degrees with overnight lows around 65 degrees.

On Wednesday, highs are expected to reach 83 degrees with overnight lows around 65 degrees.

Thursday temperatures should reach 84 degrees during the day and 67 degrees at night.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s.
