A fire Tuesday destroyed a Clanton home.

Clanton Fire Department was dispatched at 9:16 a.m. Tuesday to Second Street South for a structure fire, CFD Chief David Driver said.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames visible at a single-story residence and entered in an attempt to control the fire.

Once inside, fire personnel found the fire had already spread to the attic, and due to “rapidly deteriorating” conditions, they were ordered to evacuate the residence after about 10 minutes, Driver said.

It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, and the last unit cleared from the scene at about 12:15 p.m., Driver said.

“No one was home at the time of the fire, and we were extremely fortunate that no one was injured,” Driver said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
