The case involving a Jemison man accused of killing his wife during a dispute that rocked Jemison in April will head to a grand jury.

Eric Heath Price, 25, who has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife, Leaj Jarvis Price, appeared in court shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing before Chilton County District Judge Rhonda Hardesty.

Price was briefly brought into the courtroom with multiple officers from the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department, who gathered around as Price approached the bench.

Wearing chains around his wrists and ankles, Price appeared in a pink jumpsuit issued by the Chilton County Jail.

In addition to the murder charge, which carries a punishment of 10 years to life in prison, Price also faces three charges of making terrorist threats.

Price allegedly shot Leaj Marie Jarvis Price April 13 at Jemison Internal Medicine, a doctor’s office near the couple’s residence, as she tried to escape him.

The three charges of making terrorist threats stem from Price pointing a gun at three different people in the doctor’s office during the incident, including a doctor.

Hardesty told the court prior to Price’s hearing that the grand jury in Chilton County meets twice a year, once in February and once in August.

It is unclear when Price’s case will be presented.

Price remains in jail without a bond after Hardesty filed an order May 5 citing the nature of the offense charged, the probability of convictions, the likelihood of a lengthy sentence and the type of weapon used, a firearm, in the crime, as reasons a bond would not be set in the case.

Price’s attorney Robert Bowers Jr. had also requested May 5 that Hardesty put a gag order on the case to prevent further discussions with media and social media chatter.

Hardesty later filed an order denying Bower’s motion for a gag order.
