The sixth annual Almighty Mud Run will take place May 30 at the BridgeStone Retreat Center in Billingsley.

The event is sponsored by Hunts Brothers Pizza, which has funded the event for the last several years, and benefits Bridges of Faith International (BFI), a non-profit organization operated by volunteers and funded through donations.

Tony Dyer with BFI said the Mud Run is the organization’s biggest fundraiser each year, bringing in “six figures” annually.

Dyer noted that the group’s main efforts are based in Ukraine, where groups of children are brought to the United States to learn about Christianity, an operation even more important as unrest continues in the country.

“The uprising has caused some speed bumps, but no roadblocks,” Dyer said. “We plan to continue working in Ukraine for a long time.”

The Almighty Mud Run features 25 obstacles spread over 3.26 miles and is designed for “all walks of life.”

“We take pride in the way we design our course,” Dyer said. “We want it to be difficult, but we want everyone to finish.”

Last year, more than 1,000 people participated in the event and close to that number have already registered for this year’s event.

“Every year we retire five obstacles and create five new ones,” Dyer said. “We also improve crowd favorites so it never gets old.”

Along with those changes, the course also features a variety of sponsor-inspired obstacles.

This year’s course will feature an inverted wall, which is designed to look like a 16-foot pizza, as well as a 30-foot pizza oven which participants will have to crawl through.

Dyer noted that one of the most exciting elements of the course is the 35-foot oil rig which contestants will climb up one side and slide down the other.

“We call it ‘insanely fun’ because it’s unlike any other event,” Dyer said. “There are so many unique obstacles.”

“Our sponsors spare no expense in building these obstacles,” Dyer continued. “It’s definitely a good time.”

In conjunction with the new and unique obstacles, organizers are providing participants with “moisture wicking sport T-shirts,” new and improved medals and scripture wristbands.

Registration for the event is $54, though a 10 percent discount is given during checkout to those who share the event on social media, and is ongoing.
