Jimmy Robert Benson, 83, of Thorsby, passed away on May 20 at his residence.

He was born in Chilton County on Aug. 10, 1931, the son of the late Miles Benson and the late Ollie Hilyer Benson.

He was a former painter.

He also honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Benson of Thorsby; son, Davy Benson (Sheila) of Thorsby; son, Stephen Benson (Torey) of Birmingham; grandson, Chase (Catrina) Benson of Thorsby; grandson, Brett Benson (Kim) of Thorsby; grandson, Trent Benson of Birmingham; granddaughter, Taylor Benson of Atlanta; great granddaughters, Hannah Benson, Lily Benson and Kourtney Benson of Thorsby and brothers, Rodney (Dorothy Ann) Benson of Clanton, and Harry Benson (Betty) of Clanton.

He is preceded in death by grandson, Tyler Benson; parents, Miles and Ollie Benson; brothers, William “Bill” Benson and Charles Benson.

Funeral services will be held May 22 at 11 a.m. from Thorsby First Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Sandifer and the Rev. Marc Hodges officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Thorsby Memorial Cemetery in Thorsby.
