A body found in a small pond in the area of Seventh Street South has been identified as a missing person police were searching for, according to a press release from Clanton Police.

Robert L. Borom, 74, who lived at an address off County Road 356 in Clanton, had last been seen around midnight on April 23 near Suds-R-Us off Seventh Street South.

Because Borom suffered from dementia, police began searching for him.

Two fishermen discovered the body at about 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the release.

“Detectives have not located any evidence that this was anything other than an accidental death, but the investigation will include an autopsy to determine the cause of death,” Clanton Police Capt. David Clackley said in the release. “We would like to say thanks to our media partners and members of the community that assisted in the search. Please pray for the family of Mr. Borom.”
