As with much of the 2015 season, the Chilton County Golf Tournament was affected by inclement weather.

Golfers got through eight holes of a possible nine after a shotgun start before heavy lightning and thunder began dancing around the Montevallo Golf Club, where the tournament was held Tuesday.

Three county teams were represented, as Isabella, Chilton County and Jemison all squared off for bragging rights, with Thorsby unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.

When the match was finally called, Chilton County took home the overall win, capturing first place with a 154 for the round.

“I just think it’s cool because I was playing with the guys,” Sanders said of shooting from the boys’ tees. “I’m honored to represent the county.”

Isabella came in third, scoring 180 for the tournament.

Watley said he was hoping for a better showing from the weather.

“Seven holes isn’t really amazing, but we thank the coaches,” he said of the round.

Tillery said he was thankful to get out and play, even in an abbreviated tournament.

“It was fun,” he said. “I enjoyed it.”

Isabella coach and coordinator of the event, Jay LeCroy, said he was disappointed the weather played a part in the athletes’ ability to get out on the course.

“We tried to make the best of the situation,” he said. “This year, being as rough as the weather has been, a lot of matches are being rescheduled. We want to have a good season, but it’s hard with the weather.”
