Editor’s note: Below is a compilation of the statistics and achievements for graduates of Chilton County area schools who now compete at the college level.

Baseball

Thorsby graduate Matt Morgan enters his second season of professional baseball for the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays, an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays in the Rookie Level of Minor League Baseball.

In 2014, the 19-year-old prospect was selected by the club in the fourth round (114th overall) of the MLB Amateur Draft.

As a catcher in his inaugural season in the Rookie Level, he scored eight runs and provided two doubles, one home run and a .092 batting average.

Prior to his professional debut, he was selected to Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Team in 3A from 2012-14.

As a senior, he was selected as the ASWA’s Hitter and Player of the Year in 3A.

Craig Headley (Chilton County 2013) catalyzed the offense for the Jefferson Davis Community College baseball program (12-14) by blasting his first home run of the season and finishing 2-for-4 from the plate with three runs scored and two RBI in a 9-8 victory at Enterprise State Community College (3-14) on March 19 in Enterprise.

For the season, the sophomore’s totaled 15 runs scored, 10 RBI, eight doubles, four stolen bases, one home run and a .263 batting average.

Cameron Cummings (Chilton County 2013) batted 1-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI as an outfielder for the University of South Alabama (16-9) in a 21-1 defeat of Brown University (4-11) on March 1 in Mobile.

On March 6, the sophomore followed by finishing 1-for-3 from the plate and scoring one in a 4-3 loss at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (7-12) on March 24 in Little Rock, Ark.

For the season, he’s compiled eight runs scored, two RBI, two stolen bases and a .286 batting average.

Chance Calloway (Chilton County 2012) opened the season by hurling one strikeout and allowing one earned run in a two-inning effort as a relief pitcher for the University of West Florida (22-24) in a 15-8 loss at home to Spring Hill College (17-7) on Feb. 26 in Pensacola, Fla.

This is the first season for the junior as a member of the NCAA Division II program.

Last year, he led Lurleen B. Wallace Community College to finish 22-24 overall after posting a 5-4 record, 73.1 innings, 39 strikeouts and a 2.82 ERA through 14 appearances and 11 starts.

Alex Campbell (Jemison 2013) collected a win by hurling a season-high six strikeouts and not allowing an earned run in a five-inning performance as the starting pitcher for Wallace Community College – Selma (13-12) in a 5-3 victory at Enterprise State Community College (3-14) on March 14 in Enterprise.

For the season, the sophomore’s compiled a 3-2 record, one complete game, 30.2 innings, 27 strikeouts and a 4.40 ERA through seven appearances and seven starts.

Blake Teel (Chilton County 2014) nabbed a win after firing two strikeouts and not allowing an earned run in a five-inning effort as the starting pitcher for Marion Military Institute (14-10) in a 5-0 win at home over Coahoma Community College (1-19) in Game 1 of a doubleheader on March 8 in Marion.

For the season, the freshman has also contributed as a utility player by providing five RBI, one run scored, one double and a .273 batting average.

As a pitcher, he’s totaled a 3-1 record, one complete game, 28 innings, eight strikeouts and a 1.93 ERA through five appearances and five starts.

James Ratliff (Chilton County 2014) hurled one strikeout and did not allow an earned run in a one-inning performance as a relief pitcher for Marion Military Institute in a 7-2 victory at home against Coahoma Community College in Game 2 of a doubleheader on March 8.

For the season, he’s tallied five innings, three strikeouts and a 14.40 ERA through four appearances.

Men’s Basketball

Taylor Hughes (Chilton County 2010) finished his season as a guard for Huntingdon College (3-22) by producing 2.3 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game.

On Feb. 7, he delivered his top scoring total of the season by providing 12 points, four rebounds and one assist in an 81-69 loss at home to Piedmont College (13-13) in Montgomery.

Men’s Golf

Chilton County graduate Forrest Knight captured medalist honors at the Southeastern Collegiate Invitational with a three-round score of 208 (72-67-69) for the University of North Alabama men’s golf program from March 9-10 in Valdosta, Ga.

Among the field of 17 teams, the sophomore led the Roaring Lions to claim 10th.

Ivan Truss (Chilton County 2013) captured the No. 6 performance for Samford University at the Samford Intercollegiate Invitational at home by tying for 41st with a two-round score of 161 (80-81) from March 9-10 in Hoover.

Among the field of 10 teams, the Bulldogs clinched fourth.

Rodeo

Zachary Wilson (Billingsley 2012) collected victory in the tie down roping event at the Ark. Cossatot Rodeo for the University of West Alabama from Feb. 26-28 in Texarkana, Ark.

Nelson Wyatt (Chilton County 2011) nabbed fifth in the tie down roping event at the Arkansas Cossatot Rodeo.

Softball

Chilton County graduate Brianna Cleckler continues to be a dominant force as a starting pitcher for the Southern Union State Community College softball program.

For the season, the sophomore’s tallied a 15-4 record, 18 complete games, 121 innings and a 2.26 ERA through 19 starts en route to leading the Bison to a 28-8 overall record.

On Feb. 6, she hurled three strikeouts and allowed eight hits in a complete-game effort in a 3-1 sweep of Blinn College (26-8) in Atmore.

For the season, she’s contributed to four wins by shutout.

On March 2, she provided a season-high nine strikeouts and allowed two hits in a complete-game performance in an 8-0 triumph at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (4-21) on March 2 in Montgomery.

In her most recent win by shutout, she fired three strikeouts and allowed two hits in a complete-game effort in an 8-0 victory against Marion Military Institute (13-19) on March 15 in Roanoke.

Shelby Lopez (Jemison 2012) finished 2-for-3 from the plate as a catcher for the University of Montevallo (17-22) in a 5-0 loss at home to the University of North Alabama (25-5) on March 4 in Montevallo.

For the season, the junior’s tallied 14 runs scored, seven RBI, six stolen bases, three doubles, one triple and a .304 batting average.

Holly Watts (Chilton County 2014) batted 1-for-3 as an infielder for Southern Union State Community College (28-8) in an 8-0 sweep of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (4-21) on March 2 in Montgomery.

On March 20, the freshman finished 2-for-3 from the plate and scored two runs in a 9-1 triumph against Jefferson Davis Community College (19-19) in Montgomery.

For the season, she’s compiled five runs scored, five RBI, two home runs, one double and a .375 batting average.

Women’s outdoor track and field

Lori Davis (Billingsley 2012) led Alabama State University to a third place finish among the field of six teams at the Battle of I-65 after placing third in the javelin with a mark of 131 feet on March 14 in Birmingham.

On March 19, the junior followed by finishing fourth in the javelin at the Alabama Relays with a personal-best effort of 132-3.75 in Tuscaloosa.
