Billboard to honor those who have battled cancer

Along with the return of the Chilton County Board of Education’s Relay For Life team comes the return of its traditional fundraiser: a billboard honoring those who have fought the battle against cancer.

The deadline to purchase a spot on the billboard is April 3, according to Kim McKinney, who works at the school system’s central office and is serving as leader of the Relay team.

The billboard would be erected before Chilton County’s Relay For Life on April 25 and usually remains in place for a couple of months.

The billboard was last erected in 2012, as the central office hasn’t fielded a Relay team the last two years.

“I’m glad we get to participate and be a part of it again this year,” McKinney said.

Allen Deason with A&M Outdoor Advertising donates the billboard space.

The exact location of the billboard hasn’t been decided, but it will be in a prominent location in the Clanton area. Check The Clanton Advertiser for updates.

The names of loved ones can be added to the billboard for $50, and can be in honor of or in memory of someone who has battled cancer.

Payment can be dropped off at the Board of Education central office, located at 1705 Lay Dam Road, or at MorLyn’s, located at 621 Second Ave. N.

Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society.
