A late-game rally by the Chilton County High School softball team came up just short as the Tigers suffered their first lost of the 2015 season to the visiting Prattville Lions on Thursday night, 5-4.

A two-out single by Charlee West was all of the offense for the Lions in the first inning, while a single by Kelsey Headley and Kricket Caton didn’t do much to help the Tigers (1-1) as the first inning came to a close with no runs scored by either teams.

A leadoff double by Ashtin Morris aided in a sacrifice bunt by Kaylee Pullin to give the Lions a one-run lead in the top of the second.

A two-out double by Morgan Dennis in the bottom half of the inning ended with the Tigers stranding a runner as the second inning came to an end.

West picked up her second hit of the night with two outs for the Lions, but a strike out by Tigers pitcher Hannah Oaks brought the top of the third to a close.

With the Tigers going in order in the home half of the inning, the Lions held a 1-0 lead.

Singles by Morris and Taylor Adams set up a three-run homerun by Kailynn Jones to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Lions, but with Gabriel Kelley scoring for the Tigers in the bottom half of the inning, the Lions’ lead was cut to three runs after four innings of play.

The Lions added another run in the top half of the fifth inning when West walked and later came around to score.

Three runs by the Tigers in the bottom half of the inning cut the lead to one, 5-4.

Both teams went quietly through the sixth inning, and with a three-up, three-down inning for the Lions in the top of the seventh, the Tigers were down to their final three outs.

With one out via strikeout to start the inning, a Headley single put the tying run on first.

A second Chilton strikeout cut the Tigers down to their final out before a walk to Caton put two runners on with two outs.

A slow ground ball to the Lions first baseman brought the game to an end and gave the Tigers their first loss of the season, 5-4.

Headley led the Tigers at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance, posting two singles and a run scored.
