Second peace rally planned

The community’s response to a “peace rally” in February was so overwhelming that another event is planned for March.

Stacey Taylor of Hopewell Baptist Church said another peace rally is scheduled for March 28—and this one will include even more attractions.

The event will begin with a parade through the West End community. Line-up will begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of Second Avenue North and Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

The parade will end at E.M. Henry Park, where the rest of the day’s festivities will take place.

The peace rally will include gospel singing groups, testimonies, performances by youth groups, inspirational speakers, dancing, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, apple bobbing, three-legged races, face painting and a dunking booth (weather permitting).

Taylor said, as a Christian, he felt a responsibility to combat a growing amount of negativity he sees.

“Christians have to be an example,” Taylor said. “We’ve got to send a message out there some kind of way. Love is the answer.”

All leaders, pastors, teachers and evangelists throughout Chilton County are invited, as are all residents.

Taylor said the purpose of the event is to follow Jesus Christ’s “Great Commission” to make disciples.

“God can make a difference,” Taylor said.
