Residents of Chilton County can expect to bundle up over the weekend, as temperatures over the next few days have lows below freezing, according to the National Weather Service.

A cold front entered the area on Thursday, which led to a drop in temperatures. Friday highs are expected to reach around 46 degrees.

“As cold air filters in, expect weather lows in the mid-20s,” said NWS meteorologist Holly Allen.

Allen said lows Friday night rise slightly to 29 degrees, with temperatures expected to fall again over the weekend.

“Saturday, (the low) will be back down around 25,” she said. “Sunday will be in the mid-20s again, with a little bit of a warmup with a storm front (coming).”

Sunday high will be around 39 degrees, with Monday highs rising to around 52 degrees.

The chances of rain increase from 70 percent on Monday night to 80 percent on Tuesday.

Allen said the storm front brings a strong chance of precipitation, but that a snow day is unlikely, as Tuesday’s high is expected to be around 63 degrees.

“It looks like all rain,” she said. “As the the front pulls out Tuesday, it looks like a window for a brief rain-snow (mix). We don’t expect an accumulation of snow.”

Allen also said the amount of rain is not expected to affect travel, stating that around 1 inch of precipitation is expected over 24 hours.

As the precipitation moves on, Wednesday highs are expected to be around 41 degrees.
