A fast food restaurant in Clanton was evacuated Saturday night because of a perceived bomb threat.

Authorities responded to a call about a threat at McDonald’s at 9:11 p.m.

A restaurant manager became aware of a message written on a restroom wall about a bomb and contacted authorities, according to Capt. David Clackley with the Clanton Police Department.

Also, a box behind the restaurant was thought to be suspicious.

The restaurant, which is located off Seventh Street South, and its parking lot were evacuated.

Though the message was vague, a search of the premises was conducted.

“The last thing we want to do is take one for granted and it be a legitimate bomb threat,” Clackley said. “We want to make sure nobody gets hurt.”

The box was inspected by a certified explosives inspector with the state, and deemed harmless.

The business was cleared and reopened about 10:30 p.m.
