State Rep. Jimmy Martin (R-Clanton) announced on Tuesday that he has been appointed to serve on three important committees in the Alabama House of Representatives.

The committees include the Commerce and Small Business Committee, the Financial Services Committee, and the Insurance Committee.

“As a small businessman, I’m proud to put my experience to work (creating) an economic atmosphere that allows an equal playing field for businesses of all sizes,” Martin said in a release. “We must ensure that every company from the largest corporation to the smallest mom-and-pop storefront have the resources they need in order to thrive, expand and create jobs.”

Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard (R–Auburn) said committee assignments were made based upon the experience and expertise that each member of the House possesses.

“Rep. Martin previously served in the Alabama House, so he comes to the chamber with a specific skill set and level of experience that many of our newer lawmakers lack,” Hubbard said in a release.  “I know that the citizens of our state will benefit greatly from his service in the Alabama House.”

Martin was elected to the Alabama House in 2014 and previously served in the Legislature from 1998 to 2010.

He recently participated in the constitutionally-mandated organizational session of the Legislature, according to the release.

The 2015 regular session is scheduled to convene on March 3 and is expected to adjourn sometime around mid-June.
