Any Chilton County resident not already in the Christmas spirit may be after hearing a locally produced radio version of the Charles Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol.”

The production will air Christmas Eve and Christmas Day on two Clanton radio stations.

The cast of 19 will include appearances by incoming Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon and incoming Superintendent of Education Tommy Glasscock, along with a variety of adult and child performers, all of whom live in Chilton County.

The half-hour radio drama will air without commercial interruption.

“Our hope is that this will be a heartwarming gift to the community,”said Chris Johnson, board chairman of WPJN and advanced manufacturing instructor at LeCroy Career Technical Center. “Just a little something to help with the Christmas Spirit.”

Scott Michaels, the show’s producer, was enthusiastic about the performers.

“They all did a superb job delivering their lines for the play,” he said. “I was delighted with all of the performers, especially the children. There is a surprising level of talent right here in Chilton County.

“I’m just very proud of everyone. And who knows? Maybe this will grow into an annual tradition.”

“A Christmas Carol” will be broadcast on WSMX 98.3 FM, and on WPJN 89.3 FM on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at noon and 6 p.m. both days. WPJN is also available live on the Internet at www.WPJN.net.
