Roy William Laney Sr., 84, of Birmingham, passed away on Dec. 1 at East Glen Nursing Home in Birmingham.

He was born in Crossville on May 8, 1930, the son of the late Dewey William Laney and the late Minnie Heaton Laney.

He was a former printer.

He is survived by his son, Russell Laney of Birmingham; son, Roy Laney Jr. of Alabaster; daughter, Julie Edgin of Smyrna, Tenn.; daughter, Amy Blum of Spokane, Wash; nine grandchildren; brother, Charles Laney of Tenn.; sister, Irene Nix of Crossville; step-daughters, Robin and Christy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Diane Laney.

A graveside service with military honors was held on Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.

There will be no visitation.
