Charles A. Greer Sr.

Charles A. Greer Sr., U.S. Air Force, Ret., 82, passed away on Dec. 11 in the presence of loved ones.

Greer was born on Sept. 22, 1932, in Hoover.

He was married on July 20, 1956, to his childhood sweetheart, Ruby Acton.

Greer was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan Greer and Lona Everett Greer; wife, Ruby Acton Greer; brothers, Carl Greer, Vivian Greer, and Robert Wayne Greer; and sister, Elizabeth Spain.

He is survived by his children, Debra West, Charles A. Greer Jr., Martha Santucci, David and Elizabeth Greer, Barbara and Larry Kafchinski; grandchildren, Nicole Bartley TSGT USAF AD, Joseph Bartley, Paul Scruggs Jr., Marissa Greer, David Greer Jr. SSGT Air National Guard, Cody Greer SSGT Air National Guard, Morgan Greer, Haileigh Greer, Dakota Greer, Allen Greer, Levi Greer, Larry Kafchinski Jr., Jessica Peiper, Allen Kafchinski, Kaci Kafchinski; great-grandchildren, Alyson Greer, Lisa Scruggs, Sienna Scruggs, Hokulani Peiper, Aolani Peiper; brothers, Ray Greer, Frank Greer, and Gene Greer; sisters, Mildred Isbell and Mary Jo Troncali.

Greer Sr. was a decorated veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Greer flew in 267 missions into and over Laos and Cambodia as a Load Master aboard C-130 aircraft.

Greer was also with Operation Deep Freeze where he was involved with the

placing of the first American Flag on the South Pole

After Charles retired from Langley Air Force Base, Vaa. in 1973, he owned several restaurants and night clubs. He also owned the Greer Fence Company

Charles was also a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a Shriner of the Khedive Temple.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Dec. 16 at 1:15 p.m. in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, with Chaplain David Farry officiating

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project Fund in his name.
