Rebels take three games over Mustangs

The Isabella Mustangs rolled into Thorsby on Dec. 4 with excitement in the air over the rivalry game.

The B-team began the night with an unforgettable performance.

The Rebels were up early with a 12-5 lead to end the first quarter, but the Mustangs refused to quit.

Isabella fought hard in the second, came back, and outscored the Rebels to tie the game at 16-all going into halftime.

Both teams battled through the third and fourth quarters and had the score tied with less than a second left in the game.

With a foul committed by Isabella, Thorsby’s Tyler Jackson stepped to the free throw line and sank both free throws to win the game for the Rebels 33-31.

Leading scorers for Isabella were Ryan Headley with 13 points and Hunter Langston with eight points.

Leading scorers for Thorsby were John Ryan Wood with 10 points and Trent Jones with nine points.

The varsity girls kept the excitement going as they battled back and forth the entire game.

Robinson got the Rebels on the board early in the game when she hit 1-of-2 free throws in the opening minutes of the first quarter.

By the end of the first, the  Mustangs had taken over the lead, 17-10.

Both teams battled throughout the second, but Isabella kept the lead going into half time 20-16.

The Rebels came out the third quarter with a strong defensive effort defense and outscored the Mustangs 9-1 to take the lead 25-21. Isabella outscored the Rebels in the fourth quarter 16-15, but it was too little too late, as the  Rebels held on to win 40-37.

Keri Robinson led the Rebels with 15 points, Lilly Barnett had 13 points and Adi Argent pitched in nine points.

The varsity boys’ game finished the night with the same excitement as the previous two squads.

The Rebels got down early, as the end of the first quarter ended the with Mustangs up 18-6.

The Rebels battled in the second but still went to the locker room at the half down 26- 22.

The Rebels continued to chip away at the Mustang lead and tied the game at 37 by the end of the third quarter.

The Rebels finished the fourth quarter strong with stifling defense, coming up with seven steals and outscoring the Mustangs 22-9 to win the game, 59-46.

The Mustangs were led on offense by Chase Pate with 10 points.

The Rebel offense was led by Brock Higgins with 26 points and Bailey Sellers with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Rebel defense was led by Christian Fortner with seven blocked shots and eight rebounds. Fortner also chipped in four points and seven assists.
