Three churches to present Service of Lessons and Carols

Every year during the Season of Advent (the four weeks before Christmas), many Christian churches celebrate the time of preparation for Christmas with a Service of Lessons and Carols.

This 120-year worship tradition originated in England as a way of helping people prepare for the Feast of Christmas.

This year, Maplesville United Methodist Church, Trinity Episcopal Church in Clanton and Resurrection Roman Catholic Church in Clanton together will celebrate the season of Advent with a Service of Lessons and Carols at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Maplesville United Methodist Church in Maplesville.

The combined church choirs will sing carols and seasonal anthems together with the reading of nine Bible readings, all speaking about the coming of the Messiah in Jesus Christ.

An offering will also be taken up for the benefit of the Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center. This service is open to the general public.
