Man airlifted after single-vehicle crash near Thorsby

A Chilton County man was airlifted by emergency helicopter to UAB after a single-vehicle crash Wednesday near the intersection of County Road 29 and County Road 43.

The crash occurred at 12:30 p.m., and the driver of the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Steve Jarrett with the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

Jarrett confirmed the driver was from Chilton County, but did not release his name.

Jarrett said the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was transported from the scene of the crash by ground ambulance to a medical helicopter waiting near Interstate 65 Exit 219.

Based on emergency dispatch reports, it was a 47-year-old male who was ejected from the car and “unresponsive” but breathing.

Emergency personnel said on the dispatch reports that the individual suffered major trauma with wounds and fractures.

No additional information was available as of Wednesday afternoon.
