Vernette Cost Powell

Vernette Cost Powell, 87, of the Mineral Springs Community, passed away on Nov. 7 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Charleston, S.C. on June 9, 1927, the daughter of the late Odis Vernon Cost and the late Carrie Mae Rutherford Cost.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a faithful member of the Mineral Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Vinzant (Donald) and Nina Headley (Ronnie) of Jemison; grandchildren, Melanie (Rodney) Jackson, Lee (Kelli) Headley, Lori Bice, Crystal (Josh) Robinson, and Lindsey (Scotty) Smitherman; nine great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Lamar (Sarah) Cost and Gene (Myrtle) Cost; sisters, Faye (Raymond) Powell, and Peggy Marcus.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Powell; daughter, Connie Woods and grandson, Kent Varden.

Visitation was held on Nov. 8, after 5 p.m. at Mineral Springs Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. from Mineral Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Rothe and the Rev. J. Aaron Ellison officiating.

Burial followed in the Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Clanton.
