Maplesville Town Hall will have new hours of operation beginning Monday.

The Town Council on Thursday approved changing the hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday.

Town Hall will still be open Monday through Friday.

Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman said she recommended the change and the later opening time would allow her and the other town employee who work in the office some time each morning to work before having to serve customers.

The Town Council approved another measure that will affect when Town Hall is open for business.

Town Hall will close at noon on Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving, and then be closed all day on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, and the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28.

Garbage will be picked up on Tuesday and Friday the week of the holiday (it’s usually picked up on Wednesday and Friday).

Also, Town Hall will be closed for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the day after Christmas.

In other business, the Council:

•Awarded the job of demolishing the old Brown Brothers building on Main Street to Paradise Nursery, which submitted the low bid of $6,800. The building is vacant and deteriorating, and the space will be used for parking.

•Awarded the job of patching and sealing asphalt on the walking trail at Maplesville Community Park to Chandler Seal Coating and Stripping, which submitted the low bid of $2,200.

•Announced that the town’s annual Toys For Kids effort will begin taking applications on Nov. 5. Applications will be accepted at town hall every Wednesday in November, except the week of Thanksgiving, when applications will be accepted on Monday and Tuesday.

•Declared surplus several old computer monitors, printers and hard drives that are in storage. The machines will be donated to the LeCroy Career Technical Center.
