The Chilton County Humane Society is gearing up for a Howl-O-Ween carnival Oct. 31 beginning at 5 p.m.

The carnival is geared toward families with younger children looking for a safe event on Halloween, said Chilton County Humane Society Board Secretary Katherine Reece.

“We will be giving away plenty of candy, and the games will be traditional carnival games and a cake walk,” Reece said.

The event will be held at the shelter at 139 Shade Tree Drive in Clanton with all of the proceeds from the event benefitting the Humane Society.

“The shelter will be open, and the shelter staff will be there and will walk people through and tell them about any animals they might have questions about,” Reece said. “It will also be a good opportunity for people to see the shelter.”

Reece said admission to get in the gate will require any sort of donation for the shelter including items such as cat or dog food, cat litter, bottles of bleach, paper towels, Fabuloso or ink cartridges for the printers at the shelter (HP 932XL).

Carnival games will cost $1 per game or $6 for 12 tickets.

Reece said the tickets will allow participants to play games set up throughout the carnival, but excludes the cakewalk.

“We will have prizes for everyone,” Reece said. “We will have inflatable toys, stuffed animals, and other small prizes.”

Reece said anyone interested in adopting an animal will have the opportunity to select his or her pet and fill out the necessary paperwork, but individuals will not be allowed to leave the shelter with the animal until the animal has been spayed or neutered.

“We just thought this would be an event where the whole family could come and have fun,” Reece said.

Reece said any business interested in donating items such as candy or carnival prizes can call the shelter at (205) 755-9170.
