Isabella volleyball team wins on Senior Night

The fourth-ranked Class 1A team in the state, Isabella’s varsity volleyball team picked up its 27th victory of the season Tuesday as the Mustangs brought a close to the home portion of their 2014 season with a 3-0 win (their 20th win by straight sets) over Billingsley.

The Mustangs (27-2 overall, 5-0 area) got out to a quick 6-4 lead in the first set, but the Bears rallied back thanks to an ace by Hannah Caver to tie the set score at 7-all.

Brianna Tyler took over serving duties for the Mustangs to lead Isabella on a three-point run to make the score 10-8.

Hailey Underwood led Isabella on another three-point run to open up the IHS lead to 14-9, and another run led by Caley Booth gave Isabella a 19-10 lead.

With the Mustangs sitting on game point, a kill by Kacie Adams brought the set to a close, 25-13.

Booth started the second set off for Isabella by leading the Mustangs on a 3-0 run while picking up an ace to take a 4-2 lead.

With a 13-6 lead, Underwood led another three-point run, while kills by Sarah Graham and Unique Robinson along with an ace by Booth helped make the score 17-7.

With a 24-9 Isabella lead, an Adams ace brought the second set to a close.

Two aces by Graham and a kill by Adams sparked an Isabella six-point run to start the third set to make the score 8-2.

The Mustangs picked up another three points thanks to two kills by Robinson behind the serving of Adams.

Facing a 16-5 deficit, the Bears went on a 4-0 run of their own thanks to two aces by Caver.

Graham led another three-point run for the Mustangs, and with match point at hand, Tyler picked up the kill to bring the set and match to close with the third set win, 25-13.

Adams led Isabella with 12 assists, 10 kills, four blocks and an ace. Robinson had 11 kills and a block while Graham added 11 kills and three aces for the Mustangs.

Alexis Cook led the Bears with three kills and an ace while Jada Lucas added two kills and two aces.
