Third-ranked Mustangs’ 15th win comes at CCHS

The state’s third-ranked team in Class 1A volleyball picked up its 15th win of the season on Tuesday as Isabella took to the road to defeat Chilton County High School in straight sets: 25-18, 25-23, 25-11.

The Mustangs couldn’t have gotten off to a better start in the first set. With two blocks by Akwanza Robinson and an ace from Caley Booth, Isabella went on a 9-0 run to start the set.

The Tigers (1-5) kept pace after breaking the Mustangs serve but were never able to fully close the gap as the Mustangs cruised to the win.

The start of Set 2 mirrored the first set as the Mustangs went on an 8-0 run to start the set, putting the Tigers in an early seven-point hole.

CCHS would not go quietly in the set, chipping away at the Mustangs’ lead and drawing to within two, but IHS pulled away to win the set, 25-23.

With all the momentum in their favor, the Mustangs kept things going in the third set, jumping out to an early 11-2 lead.

The Tigers could never rebound, as the Mustangs ended the match with a 25-11 set win.

Sarah Graham led the Mustangs with eight kills, two aces and four digs.

Robinson added seven kills with four blocks, and Booth had two aces and 10 digs for Isabella.

Anna Mims had four aces while Erica Powell added five assists for the Tigers.
