A fire early Sunday morning gutted Grandview Grocery, located off Enterprise Road in Clanton.

Clanton Fire Chief David Driver said his department was dispatched about 3:40 a.m. Sunday to a reported structure fire.

“We got on the scene, and there were already flames coming through the roof,” Driver said.

Driver said that while there was not much firefighters could do to save the building, they were able to keep it from burning completely, perhaps saving valuable evidence to be used in a pending investigation into the cause of the fire.

Investigators were set to begin their work Monday, Driver said, after the scene “cooled down.”

No one was inside the structure at the time of the fire, and there were no related injuries.

Driver said firefighters left the scene at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
