School board OKs more personnel changes

The Chilton County Board of Education made personnel decisions at a called meeting Thursday including resignations, transfers and employees in new positions before the 2014-2015 school year starts Aug. 13.

The board approved the following resignations:

•Thomas R. Atcheson, elementary teacher at Verbena, effective July 29.

•Karen S. Gentry, reading/math interventionist at Thorsby, effective July 28.

•Terri D. Hipps, mathematics teacher at Jemison High, effective July 24.

•David Hubbard, law enforcement credential instructor at LeCroy Career Technical Center, effective July 16.

Hubbard is facing criminal charges related to his former position.

The board approved the following employees:

Chilton County High School

•Cymantha Foshee, secretary (9 1/2 months)

•Stephanie Bucklew, special education teacher assistant

Clanton Elementary School

•Rosa Tucker, collaborative education teacher

•Mary Susie Smith, elementary teacher (first term only)

•Chelsea White, elementary teacher

•Shanda M. Harris, pre-K teacher assistant (OSR)

•Sweda Muir, special education preschool teacher assistant

•Charity Averhart, special education preschool teacher assistant (first term only)

Clanton Intermediate

•Tracy Brown, elementary teacher

•Jessica Higgins, special education teacher assistant (multi-disability class)

Clanton Middle

•Karen Nevett, 0.5 unit counselor/0.5 unit elementary teacher

•Courtney Renee Smith, elementary teacher (transfer from CES OSR teacher assistant)

•Jamie Barrett, language arts teacher (Title I)

•Jeffrey Hilburn, science teacher

•Kala Moore Langston, special education teacher assistant

Jemison Elementary

•Cassandra Edge, special education teacher assistant

In other business, the board:

•Approved Carole Whittington and Delonna Hutto as substitute teachers, and Barbara Rush as substitute teacher and support.

•Approved a leave request for Alexandria Ellison at Jemison Elementary from Sept. 1 until Dec. 1.

•Approved a proposal to expand learning experiences for Jefferson State Community College nursing students by allowing them to observe nurses at Chilton County schools for training purposes.

•Approved the federal program supervisor’s requests: To post class size reduction units as needed and funding allows, and to post federally funded teacher units at the Title I schools as funds are available and the need arises.

•Approved the ASAP Coordinator’s request for use of at-risk funds (ASAP) for the 2014-2015 school year.

•Approved to allow Clanton Elementary School to try a fee-based afterschool program that would be mostly self-supporting.
