Former Chilton Physical Therapy Clinical Director Lori Miller has teamed up with Chilton County Physical Therapist Katie Hall to provide physical therapy to patients throughout the county.

Miller started working with Hall in May at Chilton County Physical Therapy, which is located at the Chilton County YMCA.

The two help people relearn muscle movement, regain balance, recuperate from injuries, relieve soreness and pain from arthritis and more through physical therapy for individuals of all ages.

“We have learned that two heads are better than one,” Miller said. “It has been great to work together. The patients who come here will get good quality care.”

Both Miller and Hall plan to provide a new service for kids who play high school football in the fall.

“Our goal is to be here every Friday night during the fall from 8 p.m. until the last kid leaves,” Miller said. “We will treat anyone if they need something. A lot of times in these rural communities if someone gets injured on the football field, they have to drive quite the distance to be treated at a hospital. Sometimes when they get to the hospital it is an injury that just needs to be iced, so we hope to offer services to kids who might not need to drive a long distance.”

Hall said another advantage to the new service is both Hall and Miller will be able to communicate with local physicians about certain patients who may require medical assistance.

“There might be something that a doctor needs to look at, and we can call them on their cell phone and give them a heads up,” Hall said.

Hall said the physical therapy office at the YMCA will serve as a “triage” athletic clinic on Friday nights.

They will also offer training room hours on Saturday mornings.

Miller has a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Florida Gulf Coast University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine-Athletic Training from the University of Central Florida.

She is a certified licensed athletic trainer and a certified strength and conditioning coach for all sports.

Thorsby High School student Chandler Moon suffered from a broken leg in August 2013 due to a football injury.

Moon underwent multiple surgeries on his leg, and has been working with both Hall and Miller to try to get back on the football field this fall.

“Chandler has been working really hard on various exercises to get back on the field,” Miller said. “We have helped guide him through various exercises during his therapy sessions that have helped him get back to where he needs to be.”

Moon said he appreciates the quality of care he receives from Miller and Hall.

“They don’t care how long it takes; they want to get it right,” Moon said.

The Friday night services will be free to anyone, and both Hall and Miller say they will stay until the last patient goes home.

“We will have snacks and coffee to keep us going,” Hall said. “We are excited to be able to provide this service to the county, and we think it is something that will be beneficial to the athletes.”

Chilton County Physical Therapy is located at 405 Ollie Avenue in Clanton.
