The Jemison Public Library kicked off a one-week summer reading program on Monday through the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” program.

The program is free and incorporates the statewide theme chosen by the Alabama Public Library Service for 2014.

Children age 5 and above may attend, but parents must stay at the library during the programs.

Librarian Tammie McGriff told those in attendance Monday to remember that “reading is fun.”

“I want you to have fun with it this week,” McGriff said. “You can check out however many books you would like, and we will have special programs each day.”

“You shouldn’t be scared when coming to visit the dentist,” Black said. “Your teeth are very important, and it is important that you take good care of them.”

Black handed out a bag with a toothbrush and toothpaste to each child who attended.

McGriff said kids would learn about the Jemison Police Department on Tuesday, receive a visit from Dr. Lisa Green, an eye doctor in Jemison on Wednesday, visit the Jemison Fire Department on Thursday, and have a fun day on Friday.

“On Friday we are going to have a big program where we will award prizes, have games and snacks,” McGriff said.

The program is from 10-11 a.m. each day at the Jemison Municipal Complex.
