Bethany Baptist Church

Service opened with “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” We then had a devotion, “The Biography of David.” The Apostle Paul compared King David to Jesus Christ. King David was a very important man to the Jews, but Jesus Christ is so much better. As great as David was, when he died, that was the end of his life story. Jesus Christ, the only perfect Son of God, was sinless, and after death he arose to intercede in heaven for us. Everything we do in life should be modeled after Jesus Christ, not an imperfect man. We had a prayer and were dismissed to Sunday school.

We sang “America the Beautiful,” “Surely Goodness and Mercy,” “The Grace of God Amazes Me” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Bro. Aubry’s message, “Are You Dressed for the Wedding,” was taken from Matthew 22:1-14. In these verses, Jesus is painting a picture of his rejection by the nation of Israel. He will fill God’s home in heaven with people other than the Jews, although Jews who have been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ will be in heaven with the Gentiles.

The apostle Paul was sent to preach the message of salvation to the Gentile nations. Only those who are saved will be at the marriage supper of the Lamb. Eternity is coming, be ready. Salvation is available to all people of all times.

Many times we don’t want bad people coming to our churches. If the bad don’t come, how will they know the plan of salvation? No one will be saved until they are called of God through the Holy Spirit, who must convict us of our sin. Once you repent of your sin, you will be clothed with a robe of righteousness of God. Our righteousness is as a filthy rag. The wedding garment is received by faith, not works. This will always be a proper fit. It truly is “one size fits all.” The wedding garment is approved by the Father, and will change one eternally, externally, and internally. It also must always be accepted. Although it is a free gift, we must accept, not reject, it. We will face Jesus one day.

We closed with a prayer and the hymn “Only Trust Him.”

Evening services began with a hymn, “Rock Of Ages.” Bro. Aubry’s message was “Are You in the Family” from Mark 3:31-35. In this passage of scripture, we see a multitude of people at the house where Jesus is speaking. Some came to accuse, some to hinder his work, and friends (kinsmen) who have come to take Jesus home. Jesus uses the arrival of physical family to illustrate the spiritual family. “Who is my mother and brethren? Everything centers around the family. Everyone who does the will of God is his family. Only can saved people be in the family of God. The spiritual family and work takes precedence over the earthly family. You cannot love your family like you should until you are totally committed to God. You should love and care for your family. Put God first, and everything will fall into place. Earthly relationships last only until death, but spiritual relationships last forever. Study the Bible. Do not give God the backseat in your life.

We closed with a prayer and a hymn, “Blest Be The Tie That Binds.”
