Locals vote in statewide races

•State Democratic Executive Committee, District No. 42

In Chilton County, Thomas C. Davis Jr. received 125 votes (59.8 percent of the votes) to top Ralph Hendrix, who received 84 votes (40.2 percent).

•State Democratic Executive Committee, District No. 81

Greg Pierce received 22 votes (78.6 percent of the votes) to top Unzell Kelley, who received 6 votes (21.4 percent).

•State Senator, District No. 30

In Chilton County, Clyde Chambliss Jr. earned 1,188 votes (57.8 percent of the votes) over: Harris Garner (391 votes, 19.0 percent); Bill Harris (262 votes, 12.8 percent); and Suzelle Josey (213 votes, 10.4 percent).

In Alabama, the outcome of the race is unknown as results were too close to conclude whether a runoff July 15 is necessary, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

Chambliss received 9,115 votes (nearly 50 percent) with 99 percent of the votes counted, and Garner had 5,824 (32 percent), according to the Associated Press.

The Alabama Republican Party has until June 11 to certify the results of the state races and must send a list of races that will require a runoff to the secretary of state’s office by June 13.

•Secretary of State

In Chilton County, Reese McKinney received 2,943 votes (38.4 percent), John Merrill had 2,612 votes (34.1 percent) and Jim Perdue had 2,106 votes (27.5 percent).

In Alabama, Merrill and McKinney each accrued enough votes to proceed to a runoff.

Merrill received 143,544 votes (40 percent), McKinney received 139,316 votes (38 percent) and Perdue received 79,826 votes (22 percent).

•State Auditor

In Chilton County, Jim Zeigler and Dale Peterson were the top two vote-getters.

Zeigler received 3,508 votes (47.5 percent), Peterson received 1,798 votes (24.3 percent), Adam Thompson received 1,377 votes (18.6 percent) and Hobbie L. Sealy received 708 votes (9.6 percent).

In Alabama, Zeigler and Peterson qualified for a runoff.

Zeigler earned 163,547 votes (57 percent); Peterson, 84,554 votes (24 percent); Thompson, 64,509 votes (19 percent); and Sealy, 34,814 votes (10 percent).

•Public Service Commission, Place No. 1

In Chilton County, incumbent Jeremy Oden earned 4,199 votes (56.3 percent) to top Kathy Peterson, who earned 3,263 votes (43.7 percent).

Similarly, in Alabama, Oden received 188,442 votes (52 percent) over Peterson with 171,273 votes (48 percent).

•Public Service Commission, Place No. 2

In Chilton County, Chris “Chip” Beeker Jr. and Terry Dunn were the top two vote-getters.

Beeker received 3,336 votes (44.6 percent); Dunn, 1,961 votes (26.2 percent); Jonathan Barbee, 1,101 votes (14.7 percent); and Phillip Brown, 1,084 votes (14.5 percent).

In Alabama, Beeker and Dunn each earned enough votes to go to a runoff.

Beeker received 133,244 votes (39 percent); Dunn, 111,071 votes (33 percent); Barbee, 54,169 votes (16 percent); and Brown, 42,975 votes (13 percent).
