Marie Martin Avery, 86, of Clanton, passed away May 19 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

She was born on Oct. 23, 1927, in Chilton County, daughter of the late Albert Jackson Martin and the late Myrtle Gothard Martin.

She was a battery operator at the cotton mill.

Surviving are her sons, Miley J. Avery (Donna) of Alabaster, Donny Avery of Clanton, Danny Avery of Clanton; daughter, Rhonda Avery Simpson of West Blocton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, E.C. Martin of West Blocton; sister, Jeanette Langston of Thorsby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Miley M. “Jack” Avery; brothers, Marshall Martin, Thomas Martin, M.C. Martin and L.C. Martin.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. May 21 at Martin Funeral Home.

Services will be held May 22 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug West officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.
