The four seniors on Jemison’s varsity softball team were recognized prior to Thursday’s game against Maplesville, and the quartet turned in a big night, accounting for seven of the team’s 14 hits and more than half of their 11 runs.

Jemison won, 11-0.

Jemison’s Brooke Lewis led off the bottom of the first with a single and immediately scored on a double by pitcher Jessica Paschal. Paschal then came around on an Emily Spain single to make the score 2-0.

After failing to plate a run in the second inning, the Panthers (15-12) rallied for eight runs in the third inning, which turned out to be a celebration in itself for the graduating players.

All four seniors—Lewis, Denten Ellison, Wendy Spigener and Morgan Lucas—had hits in the offensive outbreak, which gave the Panthers a 10-0 advantage.

Jennifer Paschal and Jessica Paschal each added run-scoring doubles in the third for JHS.

Spigener tacked on the final run for Jemison in the fourth when she singled and later scored on an error off the bat of Lewis.

Spain led all hitters, going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Lewis, Jennifer Paschal, Jessica Paschal, Ellison and Spigener added two hits apiece.

Jessica Paschal picked up the win on the mound, going all five innings and surrendering just two hits while walking two and striking out four.
